ABM Franchising Group, LLC, a subsidiary of ABM Industries Incorporated (NYSE:ABM), a leading provider of integrated facility solutions, announces registration is open for its onsite safety training seminar taking place in Nashville, Tennessee September 22-23. The training offering, Empower Training Services, is designed to empower, educate, and equip those in the workplace with the appropriate safe work practices and knowledge of electrical maintenance and power quality. The training will be held at New Horizons Learning Center, located at 220 Athens Way, Suite 150 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22 and Wednesday, September 23. Registration is available at NFPA.TEGG.com and the cost to attend is $650 per day or $1,050 for the full two-day course. The fee includes breakfast, lunch and the 2015 NFPA 70E Standard Book and course workbook.
According to National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), each year 4,700 injuries are reported in the United States as a result of working on or around electricity. Therefore, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that anyone working on or around energized equipment needs training on electrical safe work practices. Because the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) uses the NFPA 70E as a national consensus standard for citations, failure to comply may result in costly citations, injuries and/or death. Empower Training Services' comprehensive safety training courses are in line with the standards developed by the NFPA as well as OSHA. And, the program offers a variety of comprehensive courses and seminars to suit all NFPA 70E training needs. Participants may even be qualified to earn Continuing Education Units for participation in one of the onsite classes.
The onsite seminar will cover topics that include: definition of an arc flash, hazards associated with an arc flash, the difference between qualified and unqualified personnel, boundaries and limits of approach, and how to select the proper personal protection equipment for a particular task as well as relevant portions of NFPA 70B and InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) maintenance specifications. The training course instructor has over 20 years of industry experience specializing in predictive maintenance techniques, especially infrared thermography.
"We work with facilities worldwide to help protect employees from dangerous electrical hazards," said Joseph DeMonte, Director of Technical Training and Support for ABM Franchising Group. "Empower Training Services enables us to offer this training through onsite seminars, which helps employers to minimize risk and potentially avoid costly OSHA fines."
