Empower Training Services Looks to New Year of Electrical Safety
Friday, January 12, 2024
Recent news of the rise in workplace deaths tabulated for 2021 and OSHA’s increase in civil penalty costs in January of this year have put safety and compliance concerns in a sobering light. Looking forward to a safe and healthy 2024, the Empower Training Services team are prepared to help everyone keep their electrical safety programs updated.
As a reminder, employees who may be exposed to electrical hazards must have their NFPA 70E training updated every three years, or sooner if equipment or job requirements have changed the risks they may be exposed to.
“Changing NFPA 70B from a recommendation to a standard has helped and will continue to help workplaces stay safer,” said ABM Franchising Group’s Director of Technical Training and Support, Joseph DeMonte, who creates and teaches safety programs for Empower Training. “The new standards for electrical maintenance make it clear that testing and maintenance of electrical equipment is a necessity that keeps everyone safer.”
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states that employees working around energized equipment require training in safe work practices. TEGG contractors can contact

to discuss offering on-site or virtual safety trainings for their clients and customers.
Joseph DeMonte is the co-lead instructor for Empower Training Services, teaching courses in the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. He has over 22 years of industry experience in predictive maintenance, including infrared thermography, and previously designed courses and instructed Navy Special Ops and Coast Guard forces.
