Joseph Gierlach, Jr., Vice President of Technical Training and Support, co-presented on the intersection of electrical safety and fire safety for the 37th Annual AHCA Seminar & Expo, an event held by the State of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). The course demonstrated the importance of the electrical safety and maintenance information in the NFPA 70E and 70B standards to NFPA 99, the Health Care Facilities Code.
Attendees included over 25 AHCA members, leaders in Florida heath care organizations. The presentation, titled "How NFPA 70E Best Practices Affect NFPA 99 Requirements" featured on the event's Fire Safety track and detailed how requirements for qualified persons, electrical safety, and preventive electrical maintenance impact compliance and full implementation of NFPA 99 requirements, including recommended testing and essential maintenance of electrical systems.
Gierlach is a Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) who regularly speaks about electrical safety issues, including as an instructor for Empower Training Services from ABM Franchising Group. Co-presenter Martin Perrone is the Director of Electrical Safety and Code Compliance for the Testing Division of Carpenter Electric, and he works regularly with facility managers of hospitals and health care facilities on NFPA 99 compliance.
The theme of the AHCA event, held from October 17th to the 19th, was "Be Prepared! Planning for Emergencies in the Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities". Learn more at the event website.
